Ghana’s President John Mahama joined fellow African leaders at the opening of the Third Russia–Africa Summit in Moscow, as Russia and African countries seek to strengthen economic ties and advance shared development goals.
The summit opened on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, with discussions focused on expanding cooperation in key sectors, including trade, energy, technology, peace and security, and sustainable development.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia exported more than 13 million tonnes of agricultural produce to Africa between January and September 2026.
The figures highlight the role of agricultural trade in relations between Russia and African countries, as both sides explore opportunities to expand economic cooperation.
The two-day summit, which runs until Thursday, 29 October, is expected to provide a platform for African and Russian leaders to discuss areas of mutual interest and identify opportunities for deeper diplomatic and economic engagement.
The meeting comes amid efforts by both sides to strengthen partnerships and promote development through trade, investment and cooperation across strategic sectors.
